Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Celebration

January 18th, 2024 Time: 3 - 7:00 p.m.

You're invited to join the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration hosted by the Black Academic Excellence Center, as we come together to honor the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a visionary leader who championed equality, justice, and peace. This event offers the campus community and our broader community an opportunity to reflect on King's profound vision. Please join us for a commemorative campus march, followed by a dinner served at the PAC Pavilion.

State of Blackness

State of Blackness

February 07, 4-6:00 PM

State of Blackness is an annual event that brings the experiences of the Cal Poly community from the Black diaspora to light. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences and perspectives of Black/African American individuals. Through the panel discussion and round table discussions, participants will learn about the challenges, achievements, and unique contributions of the Black community, promoting a more empathetic and informed perspective on issues faced.


Black Commencement

Black Commencement


Black Commencement, in collaboration with the Black Faculty and Staff Association, is an annual celebration recognizing the culture and accomplishments of the Cal Poly African American graduating class. This commencement is also a time when students are able to thank their families and friends for their support along the way. Distinguished speakers, special student awards, live performances, and the tradition of wearing kente cloth stoles hand-woven from Africa,    stoles hand-woven from Africa, all add to the vibrancy.

The Black Academic Excellence Center hosts the annual Black Fall Welcome for new first-year and transfer students. This is an opportunity for new Cal Poly students to be welcomed by faculty, staff, and current students and come together in the community!
